Bmx Painting Simulator

few days ago there was a conference in EUITIO on a Linux distribution called Asturix. I could not attend the conference because I was in UK, but I've seen through the recording made by the University of Oviedo.

From the talk, there are some things that I like. The first is that repeatedly says that people "unfortunately" using Windows. It is an opinion / statement and does not justify pouring in no time and, personally, I think that says very little about the technical quality of equipment and its developer Asturix particular leader. Leaving us

impressions and views, examine your child. Henceforth, when I refer to the software I'll be doing it Asturix Business 2.0 x86_64 version be running in VMWare on Windows 7 7 Professional 64-bit.

The installation follows the steps of any Ubuntu, so at this point shares its virtues and defects ... with the particularity that Ubuntu is not mentioned at all, but the name of the machine is fixed in Ubuntu. This is clearly a failure of usability, but continue. The installation finishes, restart the machine:

asturix-error-primer-inicio

The first on the forehead. It seems Asturix might not able to upload their own default theme. This in itself says very little about the reliability of a distro, especially when the Business version is supposed to be characterized by its reliability and stability (how will you laugh the others.)

If you thought that things could not get worse, you are very wrong. After accepting the error, it loads the desktop and we find this:

asturix-wtf-primer-inicio

Let's see, if I just download the latest version from their website (2.0), how is it possible that a new version? Not content with this, plus the possible answers to the question are "Ok" "Cancel." Very careful not to say you are. But do not worry, do not care to give him a button or other .. because the message closes and nothing appears on screen more, or progress of the update, no error ... nothing.

Out of curiosity, I go to "About" to get the version of Asturix (lest it the 1.99 or something like that). I find this:

asturix-frameless

fact is the 2.0 version and if we give "Update" we find the same behavior as before. Not to mention that there is no window, breaking all the aesthetic and usability is a huge failure, but now, this is already the least.

The conference referred to a "Windows mode" which changes the appearance of Asturix to make it similar to Windows XP. I decided to try it for myself, but I when you click "Windows mode" I found this:

asturix-pregunta-fail

do not know what part of that dialogue to correct earlier.

  • The dialog title is "Question", in itself is a bad title, but when the content of the dialogue is not a question, it becomes pathetic.
  • It says' You must close the session to implement the new configuration " and the options are "Exit" and "No Exit". How I can answer if I ask a question?
  • "[..] The text says that you must log in implementing [..]". Interestingly there is no button to close the session or cancel, no, what we have is "Exit" and "No Exit". People who "unfortunately" using Windows, are used to ask questions and to propose options that relate to the question.

At this point of what I have wanted is to throw out the window Asturix, but dig a little deeper. Let's see what hides in "All Programs"

asturix-todoslosprogramas-fail

course, very logical. Everyone knows that all these options are "All Programs", because my life "Documents" folder is a program. Am I the only one who finds it very confusing?

Well, okay, I've had enough of this "Windows mode." How do I disable? Ahhhhh, this is one of the most closely guarded mysteries. Interestingly remains the option of "Windows mode", so I guess that will turn it off:

asturix-windows-mode-fail-II

Let's see, the first thing is that clicking on the "Windows Mode" The panel is in the middle and not let me read the dialog. I have to move the mouse to use it and we see the dialog box before. Interestingly not disable Windows mode, but leaving it as is. In other words, why put an option that does not change anything? Moreover, why is there an option to disable the "Windows way"? Assuming you achieve

solve the puzzle of "Question?, You Asturix logged and go into Windows mode. The funniest thing is that I could not find a way to disable this mode. The "Windows Mode" still appears, but not off, just leaving it as is. This

I was already looking very very rare, so I decided to restart if there was anything halfway. Do not quite understand why, but after reboot, the system was able to activate and deactivate Windows.

Your Asturix-update (responsible for updating the system) does not work. It simply is dead without error. Looking out of the terminal, it appears that attempts to download an update script of " http://yestilo.serveftp.com/asturix/updates/Business/2.0/actualizar.sh " but that file does not exist. This is an egregious failure by both parties. The file there is a huge oversight, but the program will not report it is glaring.

Asturix-installer does not work for me, although in this case does not show anything excessive terminal and I have not wanted to see him break his gut. Conclusion

In light of the data, it is clear that Asturix Business 2.0 is far from reliable, much less be able to "replace Windows," as the leading developer. While the idea is interesting, the execution is far from acceptable.

This is only a cursory review of my first impressions. Intended to be further evaluated in depth and make a series of articles, but after seeing the amount fault that has given me, I think it's worth it. At least until they have a new version.

This is not to discourage any member of the project, just the opposite. The errors are there, waiting to be corrected.
